American Citizen Services
Services Provided by the American Citizen Services Unit
The American Citizen Services Unit assists U.S. citizens with the following:
- Application for new or renewed passports
- Registration of citizens living in, traveling to, or born in Guatemala
- Security information for citizens planning to travel to Guatemala
- Voter registration
- Social security and veterans’ benefits
- Provision of federal income tax forms
- Notarial service for documents to be used in the United States
- Certain emergency services, including prisoner protection and documentation of the deceased
What American Citizen Services CANNOT Do:
- Act as your lawyer, translator, interpreter, personal assistant, travel agent, investigator, law enforcement agent or real estate agent
- Provide you or your family with physical protection
- Pay your debts or fines, sort out property disputes; or interfere in judicial proceedings
- Find you employment, residence, or schools
- Search for missing luggage
- Settle disputes with hotel managers and landlords
- Discuss visa cases. All questions about visas must be directed to the Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) or Immigrant Visa (IV) Units.
