Statement by the U.S. Embassy Regarding the Death in Combat in Iraq of Lance Corporal José Gutiérrez

Guatemala, March 24, 2003 -- We deeply regret the death of Lance Corporal José Gutiérrez of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. We join Guatemalans in remembering Lance Corporal Gutiérrez, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to his adopted country, the United States. On behalf of the American people, I honor his service and express my gratitude for his valor and dedication. He represents the enormous courage of all our men and women in uniform. I extend my deepest condolences to his family members and friends.---
