Statement by the U.S. Embassy Regarding the Taking of Hostages by Members of the Ex-PACs

Guatemala, October 27, 2003

The Embassy of the United States is closely following the situation of several journalists who were taken hostage yesterday in La Libertad, Huehuetenango by members of the EX-pac. No one has the right to deprive anyone of his or her freedom and we strongly condemn this act. We expect a prompt and peaceful resolution of this case, and the release of all the journalists.---
