Bruce Williamson

Currently the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, Bruce Williamson joined the State Department in 1985 and has been posted to a variety of assignments overseas and domestically. Prior to this assignment, from July 2010 to June 2011 he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru, and from August 2007 to June 2010 as the Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey, Mexico. From September 2004 to July 2007, he was assigned as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia.

Previous to that assignment, Mr. Williamson served as a Senior Advisor in the Latin America Office of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, focusing on issues involving Brazil and Peru. He also served as both Deputy Director, and Acting Director, of the State Department's Office of Economic Sanctions Policy and Economic/Commercial Counselor in El Salvador. Previous tours include stints as Political Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Desk Officer in the State Department’s Office of Andean Affairs, Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, and Vice-Consul in Kingston, Jamaica.

Mr. Williamson has a M.S. in Strategic Studies from the National War College, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. in Economics & Political Science from Yale University. His foreign languages are Spanish, Portuguese, and Norwegian.
