Deputy Chief of Mission
David E. Lindwall

David Lindwall has served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala since July, 2006.
Previously he served as Director of the Office of Central American and Panamanian Affairs in the Department of State from 2004-2006. In that position he played an important role in building Congressional support for the U.S.-Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-Cafta).
Prior Foreign Service postings have included Political Counselor positions in Guatemala City (2001-2004); Asunción, Paraguay (1998-2001); and Quito, Ecuador (1995-1998). From 1993-1995, Mr. Lindwall served as Alternate U.S. Representative to the Organization of American States, and represented the United States on the OAS Commission on Juridical and Political Affairs.
Early in his Foreign Service Career, Mr. Lindwall served as Vice Consul in Bogota, Colombia (1985-1986) and Economic Officer in charge of macro-economic analysis and reporting in Madrid, Spain (1986-1988). In 1989 and 1990, Mr. Lindwall served as Special Liaison Officer in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where he was the field officer responsible for daily liaison with the Nicaraguan Democratic Resistance. From 1990-1993, Mr. Lindwall served as Political Officer in Managua, Nicaragua.
Before entering the Foreign Service with the Department of State, Mr. Lindwall was an employee of the Panama Canal Company/Canal Zone Government, serving from 1975-1976 with the Division of Schools.
David Lindwall is a native of California.
